Supervisory Control and Data Acquistion (SCADA)

A SCADA system, as its name suggests, is all about collecting data from around the irrigation area, and based on certain conditions allows control of Irrigation delivery chanels via automated gates.

The Ord Irrigation SCADA system can be broken up into a number of parts.

1. The Water ordering Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system and Water scheduling system, that provides optimal delivery and scheduled control of regulator structures.

2. The Host computer that collects, analyse, stores data and allows control of remote sites.

3. The expansive radio network that provides communications coverage over the entire irrigation area (20km radius) to the remote monitoring and control sites.

4. Remote sites, consisting of a number of Automated gates/pump systems to control and quantify water throughout the irrigation area.

5. The sophisticated data analysis and processing software (HYDSTRA) used for the final reporting of the data.

With assistance from Government grants and co-operation with the Water Corporation and Department of Water, funding for additional Automated gates has been received, which will assist with water use efficiency and management in the Irrigation system.
